José A. Valdez - Principal Associate


    Mr. Valdéz is a Principal Associate of the firm and a seasoned Economist that has been involved during the past 16 years in private sector participation, investment promotion and trade, privatization and regulation in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East.


From 2005 – 2009 he served as Chief of Party for SEGURA/IP3 directing a USAID technical assistance program for the corporatization of the water company in Amman, Jordan. As Undersecretary for Investments (for over 3 years) in the Capitalization Program in Bolivia, he was one of the key line public sector managers responsible for the reform of the country’s main infrastructure sectors including water, electricity, telecommunications, hydrocarbons, airlines, railroads and smelting. As a result of the process, the country attracted 1.5 billion dollars in capital investment financed by the private sector.


Mr. Valdez was deputy manager of BOLINVEST as part of a 4-year successful investment promotion program in Bolivia financed by USAID resulting in the start of export sectors in wood manufactures, jewelry, apparel and agro industry. Mr. Valdez has worked closely with MIGA at the World Bank as evaluator of Investment and Trade promotion agencies in Africa and as a trainer on investment and trade promotion techniques.

 

Mr. Valdez holds a M.Sc. in agricultural economics from Oxford University and a License et Maitrise from Louvain La Neuve University, Louvain La Neuve, Belgium, 1986.  Mr. Valdez is a native Spanish speaker and also speaks fluent English and French.
